Civitavecchia is a town and comune of the Metropolitan City of Rome in the central Italian region of Lazio. A seaport on the Tyrrhenian Sea, it is located 80 kilometers (50 miles) west-north-west of the center of Rome, across the Mignone river. The harbor is formed by two piers and a breakwater, on which is a lighthouse. The name Civitavecchia means “ancient town”. The population was around 53,000 as of 2015.
